Control is an illusion.
Control is an illusion.
Many feel they’ve lost control of all that is happening. The fact is, we never had control. We make efforts to feel more in control like binging on social media, the news, food, or conversation, or we do nothing, sleep too much, walk around in a sort of a daze.
The pandemic has exposed what is true – that we are human, vulnerable we can’t know the future. Finding solid ground to stand on can be challenging.
What we do have control over is how we notice, practice, and remember what can ground us. Being curious, seeing the opportunity to grow from this, learning to meditate, engaging more with loved ones, and with nature are all ways to feel more stable, more steadfast.
We can learn to identify and manage our expectations. We often expect a lot of ourselves. Take time to set an intention for each week, and remind yourself of it daily.
Some examples of intentions are:
- I intend to accept myself just as I am.
- I intend to bring kindness to all my interactions.
- I intend things for my body that nourish and heals it.
- I intend to stop, be still, and take three deep breaths here and there.
- I intend to name three things I am grateful for.
- I intend to be compassionate with myself and others.
- I intend to smile at someone today.
- I intend to open my heart.
- I intend to do something kind for someone who needs help.
- I intend to stand outside and see the beauty of the trees and flowers.
